IHOP initiated the Pancake Celebration as a fundraiser. Since its launch, the company has raised over $30 million for organizations such as Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

When IHOP opened its doors in 1958 in Los Angeles, it took on its full name of “International House of Pancakes”. In fact, the abbreviation appeared only 15 years later.

According to the website, the marketing campaign introduced the acronym IHOP in 1973 and the moniker stuck.
