Ice Storm in Texas: How to Report Property Damage to the State

The damage study will allow first responders to determine where immediate resources are needed and whether the state is eligible for federal disaster relief.

Austin, Texas. If you suffered any property damage due to an ice storm this week, the State of Texas requires you to report it.

Gov. Greg Abbott and emergency management officials on Thursday reminded residents of the Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) Damage Survey, which will be used to determine damage caused by the ice storm across the state.

Click here to complete the damage form. Once you’re on the site, scroll down and click “Ice Storm/Winter Weather Jan 29 – Ongoing”.

The survey is available in English and Spanish.

The damage review will allow first responders to determine where immediate resources are needed and whether the state is eligible for federal disaster relief.

Texas officials also want to remind residents that reporting damages through a survey does not replace reporting to insurance agencies.

Areas of North, Central and West Texas experienced large ice buildups resulting in dangerous driving conditions and various types of damage. Freezing has been observed since Monday.

“As the ice begins to melt in many communities, the impact of winter weather on homes and businesses is becoming apparent,” said Texas Emergency Management Commissioner Nim Kidd. “I encourage any Texan who has suffered property damage to report it to help authorities identify the needs of the community.”
