Hundreds of people travel to Austin to urge Abbott to end Operation Lone Star.

Hundreds of people went to the State Capitol on Saturday morning to ask Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to end Operation Lone Star.

“We drove 312 miles from the Valley RGV to be here today. We’ve been on the road since 3:45 and we’ve just arrived, and yes, we’re tired,” says one of the hosts at End Operation Lone Star. Rally.

“We believe that in this case, the governor of Texas, Governor Abbott, is advancing the political agenda by enforcing immigration laws on our southern border,” says Fernando Garcia of the Border Human Rights Network in El Paso.

Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Texas National Guard continue to work together to secure the border. Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, more than 350,000 people have been detained at the border and more than 25,000 have been arrested on criminal charges.

“And they have seized enough fentanyl to kill every man and woman, child, in the entire United States of America,” Abbott previously said in a State of the Union address in February.

Gathered Saturday morning at the Capitol, they say Operation Lone Star has torn families apart at the border.

“I think what he is doing at the border is illegal, he is already spending over $5 billion on operations. It’s our taxpayers’ money. It’s not a mandate and I think he needs to stop it,” Garcia says.

The Texas Reform Immigration Alliance, also known as “RITA”, came out in defense of the basic needs of Texans.

“We believe that all taxpayers deserve the same rights that we need to have permission to travel to hospitals, supermarkets and schools, and we believe that this is the right of everyone,” says Lupita Sanchez, one of the End Operation speakers. Lone Star Rally

The rally participants held banners with the inscription “Unite for one cause to protect your families.”

“Kids are advocating the same things at school that they are here because they believe they have the same problems with the same problems,” Sanchez says.
