Huge skyscraper in Auckland that will forever change the skyline of the city

The new tower with hundreds of homes could become the tallest building in Auckland if the plans filed with the city are approved.

The City Tower at 323 22nd Street, near Kaiser Plaza, will feature 596 homes, 5% of which will be affordable. The 513-foot tall building will replace the parking lot across from the 404-foot Ordway building at 1 Kaiser Plaza.

Nearly 600 homes will include 140 studios, 284 one-bedrooms, 156 two-bedrooms, eight three-bedrooms and eight homes with four or more bedrooms – 306 homes will have balconies.

The project is being developed by CIM Group and is almost entirely market priced, with just 30 rental homes considered affordable for households earning between 30% and 50% of the median income in the area, or $25,688 to $42,814, according to the 2021 Census . data. It is not clear from the plans whether the available apartments in the building will be family-oriented or will be one-bedroom homes.

The Town Tower will include ground floor retail space and parking for 180 bicycles and 734 cars. The building will be located a quarter mile from the 19th Street BART station. Parking will extend from the basement to the 11th floor.

The building will also feature an 11,741-square-foot outdoor terrace on the 12th floor with a hot tub and pool area with poolside seating, lawn, yoga area, and summer kitchen. The top floor will have an 8,579-square-foot gym.

There is currently no information on an estimated opening or completion date for the project.
