House Republican Party calls on Marines to fill critical roles with Marines made redundant by Wax Mandate: ‘total disgrace’

FIRST TIME ON FOX: Some Republican House of Representatives call on the Marine Corps to reach out to Marines discharged from service due to a military vaccination mandate to fill critical roles.

Rep. Greg Murphy, RN.C., in whose area Camp Lejeune is located, sent a letter with several of his GOP colleagues to Marine Corps Commandant David Berger asking them to contact Marines who were fired because they have not received COVID-19 vaccine for key positions.

“I represent over 52,000 Marines and their families who sacrifice so much in their selfless service to our beloved country,” Murphy said in a press release exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital.

“It’s a shame that so many of these selfless people were deprived of their livelihood just because they made a conscious medical decision,” Murphy continued. “Our armed forces cannot function as the most powerful force in the world with such baseless and unscientific policies.”

“That is why I have sent this letter to the Commandant of the Marine Corps in order to restore the livelihoods of our military personnel and ensure the excellent position of our armed forces,” he added.

House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost, D-Illinois, said Marines discharged from service because of a vaccination mandate should be reinstated.

“Congress canceled the Department of Defense mandate for a COVID-19 vaccine when we passed the National Defense Authorization Act last year,” Bost said. “As the Marine Corps faces a recruiting crisis, it only makes sense to reinstate those who were fired simply because of an outdated mandate.”

“They have proven that they are ready, willing and able to serve our country,” he continued.

Rep. Mary Miller, of Indiana, who served six years in the Marine Corps Reserve, told Fox News Digital that the country “has trained Marines who can do critical jobs today, but they were fired simply for refusing a vaccine.”

“That’s wrong,” Miller said. “It would be good for the United States if these soldiers returned to active duty.”

In a letter to Berger, lawmakers expressed “grave concern about the unprecedented recruitment challenges facing your service and the entire Department of Defense.”

The lawmakers wrote that Marine Corps vaccination mandate layoffs exacerbated “this problem” and that last year Acting Inspector General Sean O’Donnell “wrote in a memo to the Secretary of Defense last year about the COVID-19 exemption process that many military personnel were not even given due attention.”

“As you are aware, the Marine Corps has been the most aggressive service in the discharge of military personnel, as a result of which the Marine Corps has been forced to change its recruitment target for FY 2022,” the letter reads.

“Fortunately, under the leadership of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Congress has bipartisanly removed the vaccination mandate,” the lawmakers wrote. “While I fully understand the need for mission readiness, in a low risk group of healthy Marines, as well as the availability of therapy, this mandate has inherently done more harm than good.”

The lawmakers said they had a “simple” request: “Marines recruiters are looking into contacting the thousands of Marines who have been expelled to find out who can fill positions where their military occupational specialty (MOS) is badly needed.”

“We ask for special attention to those Marines who received recall bonuses due to the need for their MOS experience,” the Republicans wrote.

Murphy and colleagues pointed out to Marine Corps Commandant David Berger that "the Marine Corps is now trying to recoup these bonuses, so there is a double jeopardy for retired Marines."

“General Berger, we greatly respect your past distinguished service in our corps and ask that you carefully consider this recommendation,” the legislators wrote.

Murphy, Bost, and Miller are joined in the letter by Virginia Rep. Jen Kiggans, a former Navy pilot.

The Marine Corps did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
