‘He’s a Soldier’: Dog found taped to sidewalk in Boca Raton continues to recover at Humane Society

BOCA RATON, Florida. (WSVN) — The sweet dog continues his recovery at a Boca Raton facility after he was found glued to the ground and told by doctors he was a real soldier.

The soldier is the new favorite of the Tri-County Humane Society in Boca Raton, where he has been recuperating for a week now.

Dr. Julia Sheehan, the facility’s veterinarian, said the Good Samaritans found the dog on the sidewalk, glued to the ground.

“It took them, they say, about an hour to pick him up from the sidewalk. He’s stuck,” Sheehan said.

Sheehan said that the Soldier lay in his garbage for so long that he was glued to the pavement.

The Doctor said that when they first brought the Soldier in, he looked like he was dead.

“Covered in feces, even maggots,” she said. “He had many cuts on his skin, long nails, from which, when we cut them, mostly pus came out.”

The soldier has heart murmurs, ear infections, eye ulcers, and a herniated disc in his back, leaving him unable to walk.

Doctors daily conduct physiotherapy exercises for a serviceman, teach him to stand and walk independently. They also cure him of all other diseases.

Sheehan said he’s not only responding to medication, but to all the love and attention.

“I think it’s good. I think he’s in the military, that’s why we named him that,” she said.

The soldier will stay at the Society for the Protection of Animals for another month. If his recovery is successful, he can be adopted.
