Haitian classical guitarist Amos Coulange and singer Kesita Klenar to perform at Miami Dade College

MIAMI – Meet one of the most revered classical guitarists in Haitian culture: Amos Coulange. Film composer and award-winning maestro Amos Coolange, along with international singer Kesita Chenar, will perform on Thursday, February 23 at 11:00 am at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus at the Idea Center (Building 8, 5th Floor, Room 8525). ).

Black History Month Celebration

This talk is part of MDC’s Black History Month event “Haiti’s History Is Black History: A Survey of Ayiti’s Influence with Dr. Gerda Nicholas, Co-Founder and President of the Ayiti Community Trust.” Join us for an unforgettable interactive and engaging presentation on the history of Haiti (Aiti) and its impact on the US and around the world.

Amos Coolange

Coulange was born in Haiti (Port-au-Prince) in 1954. He won first prize at the 7th Leo Brouwer’s Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare in Martinique. Coulange also composes works for guitar and flute, mixed voice choir and film soundtracks. His music draws inspiration from Haiti and its heritage, as well as various cultural influences. Coulange composed the scores for the films The Composer of the Middle Passage (2000), The Composer of the Large Size (2000 and 2004) and The Man on the Shore (1993). The films have been watched by more than 20 million people.

Kesita Klenar

Kesita Klenar is from the city of Aquin (South of Haiti). Clernard founded several companies in the food industry before moving on to the magical world of art, including music, interior design and fashion. Since 2010, she has performed on small Parisian stages for private parties with her group Caribbean Jazz.
