GOP senator ‘pissed’ over Russia downing US drone: ‘We can’t let that happen’

Republican Senator Mike Rounds said he was “pissed off” after reports of a Russian fighter jet colliding with a US military drone.

The US military command said on Tuesday that Russian fighter dropped fuel on an American drone over the Black Sea, clipped the propeller of the drone and forced it to sink into the water.

Jennifer Griffin of Fox News asked him what he thinks about it, Rounds. RS.D., said that he was “rebuffed”.

“I mean, let’s be honest about this for a second… I’m really sorry guys. They shot down a United States warplane,” Rounds said at a summit of the Presidential Foundation and the Ronald Reagan Institute. “They disabled him.”

The aircraft in question was one of two Russian Su-27s flying in tandem when the collision occurred in international airspace over international waters.

The drone’s propeller was damaged, causing the drone to crash in the Black Sea, west of Crimea. US Department of Defense spokesman told Fox News.

“So yeah, I’m not really happy with that,” Rounds said. “And the bottom line is, we can’t let that happen. This is the case when our allies and our adversaries must understand that we do not put up with this.

He added: “I think we will probably have to discuss a little more seriously how serious this is. You are not destroying our planes. This is an absolute violation of international norms, if nothing else, and something more must happen in this particular case.”

Russia denies that the planes touched each other and accuses the US of unnecessarily escalating the problem.

“We presume that the US will refrain from further media speculation and stop flights near Russian borders,” Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said on Wednesday.
