Good Samaritans from Colorado Walmart swoop in to rescue child from alleged kidnapper: police

A Colorado woman has been arrested and charged after she allegedly tried to steal a young child from her mother at a Walmart store but was stopped by quick-witted shoppers.

City of Alamosa, Colorado posted on facebook that the police department responded to Thursday’s report of a kidnapping and found that the woman had grabbed a baby that was not hers from a shopping cart.

“Thanks to the quick actions of the citizens in the store during the incident, they were able to apprehend the suspect until the arrival of law enforcement and safely reunite the young child with his parents,” the statement said.

The suspect was identified as Kimberly Jones, 50, from Blanca, Colorado.

Jones was charged with kidnapping, threatening, child abuse and disorderly conduct.

Charges of kidnapping, threats, and child abuse are felony charges, while charges of disorderly conduct are misdemeanor charges.

Police say it was an isolated incident and the public should not worry.

“The Alamos Police Department would like to thank the brave citizens, Wal-Mart employees and the public for their prompt response and vigilance,” the statement said.

The Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that Jones is currently being held at the Alamosa County Detention Center.
