Georgia teen dies of fentanyl overdose after taking fake Percocet at age 17

One of the five underage Gwinnets found in recent weeks, a 17-year-old woman, died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, according to police.

On February 24, Julia Zirangua overdosed on what she thought was Percocet and passed away.

Drolwyn Calix-Rodriguez of Lawrenceville and Elizabeth Elliott of Norcross were detained by Gwinnett County Police for selling counterfeit drugs to her.

Calix-Rodriguez is charged with two charges of selling a Schedule I or II banned substance, violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, possessing cocaine, stealing a gun in the commission of a crime, and possessing a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Elliott is charged in connection with the sale of a controlled substance.

Due to its strength and availability, drug traffickers mix fentanyl with other substances, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The drug is 100 times stronger than morphine.

The Zirangua family set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the cost of her funeral.

There are no words to adequately express the emptiness that Jocelyn Zirangua’s family feels. “We appreciate all the help in giving my sister one last parting gift.

Zirangua is one of five Gwinnett Hispanic youths who died last month from overdoses or gunshot wounds.

The remains of Susana Morales, who had been missing for nearly eight months, were discovered near the Barrow County line on February 8. She was killed and a Doraville police officer was arrested and charged with murder.

Rodrigo Floriano, 17, was found dead in an abandoned house in Tucker, Georgia on February 9. It is believed that the cause of his death was an overdose.
