George Soros-backed open borders group sues DeSantis over migrant flights, violating federal tax law: report

A George Soros-backed immigration nonprofit that advocates open borders and is suing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for bringing migrants to Martha’s Vineyard has reportedly violated federal disclosure law.

The Washington Examiner reported that Alianza Americas, which received more than $1.5 million from the Soros Open Society Funds, violated IRS law by failing to file a 2021 Form 990 within 30 days of a written request. The Examiner sent the first written request for tax forms to Alianza on November 28, and the second and third requests on December 23 and December 27, respectively.

The publication said it searched the records to check if Alianza was involved in lobbying in 2021.

From 2016 to 2020, left-wing billionaire George Soros gave at least $131 million to media groups, studies show.

Paul Kamenar, an adviser to the National Legal and Policy Center, a conservative watchdog group, told the Examiner that Alianza could be fined up to $10,000 a day, as well as a $1,000 personal fine.

The Chicago Republican Party visited the address listed on Alianza’s latest state tax forms twice in December, but neighbors said that on both occasions, the organization’s employees no longer visited the office.

“I think it’s not surprising that they act like a shadowy organization when they appear to repeatedly defy rules, evade investigation, and likely violate a number of laws designed to uphold the sovereignty of the United States,” a spokesman for the Chicago Republican Party said. Jeff Fielder said.

Records show that Alianza received $8.5 million from the Department of Health and Human Services in 2021, raising concerns that the organization may have illegally used grant money for lobbying purposes.

In a lawsuit filed in September, Alianza sued DeSantis and Florida Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue for sending Venezuelan migrants from the US-Mexico border to the prestigious Martha’s Vineyard enclave in Massachusetts. Despite the wealthy community’s pro-haven stance, the islanders were quick to say they didn’t have the resources to support the influx of migrants, who were flown to the Cape Cod military base within days.

On Sunday, Fox News Digital reached out to Alianza Americas for comment on the Examiner report.
