Frustration grows as Plano executives struggle to decide how to deal with short-term rentals.

PLANO, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – Frustration among Plano residents continues to grow as the city struggles to deal with short-term rentals in the city.

In September last year, a working brothel was discovered in one of the houses, which caused indignation of the neighbors.

Plano City Council is expected to hear an update from staff on Monday evening on the best ways to address this pressing issue. There are currently no regulations.

Residents have complained about the noise, litter, parties and alleged sex trafficking that occurs in some of these homes.

Plano police responded to about 100 short-term rental incidents last year, about 60% they said involved complaints about noise, parties, alcohol and drugs.

In response, Airbnb said most of the hosts on its platform are responsible neighbors who use short-term rentals as a way to supplement their income.

City council members met with lawyers who said the law was not entirely clear on a number of issues and could lead to lawsuits.

They also said the best option would be to require property owners to register with the city.
