Fort Worth Zoo steps up security measures after mysterious animal disappearance in Dallas

FORT WORTH, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – In light of recent incidents at the Dallas Zoo, the Fort Worth Zoo says it is tightening security measures.

Just yesterday, two monkeys are missing from the Dallas Zoo after officials noticed their habitat had been “intentionally disturbed”.

On January 13, a clouded leopard named Nova was deliberately released from its habitat through a carved hole similar to that found in a monkey habitat. Ten days after Nova was released and then found, someone killed an endangered white-headed vulture named Pin.

The Fort Worth Zoo said that while the property already has 24-hour security and cameras in all backstage areas, they have stepped up patrols day and night.

The zoo also said it was checking the perimeter fencing, adjacent areas and habitats.

“The safety and security of our guests, staff and animals is our top priority,” the zoo said in a statement.

In December, the Fort Worth Zoo discovered Mountain Bongo got out of his enclosure – at your own request. Zoo officials said Bongo’s horn was stuck in the perimeter fence and noticed she was in distress when she broke through the fence, escaping her habitat.
