Fort Worth saw a 13% drop in violent crime in 2022, according to police data.

The plan to reduce violent crime in Fort Worth appears to be working.

A report from the Fort Worth Police Department shows that violent crime has dropped by more than 13% in 2022.

The police department believes this is the result of the “Safe Fort Worth” initiative.

The plan was launched last April and is focused on high crime areas. The goal was to reduce crime by 10%.

On Tuesday, Fort Worth Assistant Police Chief Robert Aldridge told city council members that more than 4,300 violent crimes were committed in the city in 2022, including murders, shootings and robberies.

This is 600 less than a year earlier.

“A big metric at the very bottom is that we have had over 2,400 separate calls for help through the Violent Crime Initiative,” Chief Aldridge said. “Weapons were confiscated from 360 of them. That’s the whole point of trying to wrest weapons from the hands of people who don’t need them, because when they have them, bad things happen.”

Police said technology such as a cluster of cameras that read license plates played an important role.

The TCU Department of Criminology has also teamed up with the Fort Worth Police to help identify crime hotspots that officers should focus on.
