Fort Worth residents take to the streets as North Texas thaws

After being stuck at home for three days, people were ready to leave the house.

On Thursday, more people went outside as the Metroplex freezer thawed.

“The only thing I can say is that everything is fine now,” Maria Alvarrán said while shopping for groceries. “The streets are pretty clean, so no problem.”

The roadways are still covered in slush, but confidence and the number of cars on them is growing.

Temperatures will rise above freezing on Thursday; roads are still icy

“This is my first outing in probably two days,” said Jai Bennett. “I live in an apartment building with a very high slope in and out, so I didn’t take the risk.”

A popular place in the West 7th Street corridor was a grocery store.

“We are out of bread and milk, so you need to buy some things. But now the roads are fine,” said Bobby Duncan. “In the area, this is a small sketch. But the main streets are pretty easy to get around.”

Scott, who chose not to give his last name, is a commercial airline pilot. In addition to clean roads, he says the skies were also clear.

Some in North Texas are struggling with power outages due to ice.

“They get a lot of cancellations and stuff like that. But the ones that do go get us out when they can,” he said.

Scott says he will fly again on Friday.

As for Duncan, the grocery store is a cool place to visit at the moment. He was at home with his children.

“Yes, with four kids, so running to the store is a joy. Little joy,” he said.
