Fort Worth residents accused of smuggling illegal immigrants arrested near Mexican border

The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested three men from Fort Worth near the Mexican border who were reportedly trying to transport illegal immigrants in their trunk.

The arrests came Wednesday when a serviceman stopped a vehicle on US 277 in Val Verde County.

While the paratrooper was talking to the driver, he asked if there was anyone in the trunk, but the driver did not give him an answer.

The driver was handcuffed, and then two passengers tried to escape. They were caught and a soldier used a stun gun on one of them.

The names of the detained men have not been released.

The immigrants were handed over to the US Border Patrol.
