Fort Worth police shoot man during domestic disturbance call

The incident took place in a residential building in the 4900 block of Rutland Avenue on January 21, 2023. Police Chief Neil Noakes said officers arrived at the scene after they received a call at 12:20 p.m. from a woman who said her brother had been killed. threatening her with a gun.

About a minute after police arrived at the scene, the woman’s brother ran out of the back of the house. The police pursued him, but he allegedly refused to stop.

The officers used a stun gun to try and get him to stop, but Police Chief Noakes said the taser was “ineffective”. At the moment, they do not know why the stun gun did not stop the man.

The chief said the officers were then presented with a death threat from a man who “made them fear for their lives” and a 15-year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department shot the man.

He has been hit at least once. Officers gave him first aid before he was taken to the hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition. Police said a handgun was found near the man at the scene.

“It’s a sad situation when an officer is forced to use his weapon,” Chief Noakes said. “It’s a sad situation every time someone gets shot, but unfortunately it’s a reality that officers face on a daily basis.”

Police said the investigation into the incident is still at an early stage and many questions remain as to why the stun gun did not work on the man and whether the man pointed a gun at the officers.
