Fort Worth police released videos of the shooting, in which a man, they say, pointed a gun at an officer

On Thursday, Fort Worth police released two videos they say show a man pointing a gun at an officer moments before he was shot.

In a statement released on video, Fort Worth Police Assistant Chief Robert Aldridge said the woman called 911 on January 21 and said her brother, Hector Galvan Montelongo, 35, had pulled his gun during an argument. She told the 911 operators that he was still at home and put the gun in his pocket. When officers arrived at the house, emergency operators were told that the man was still armed but had gone into the backyard.

When the police arrived at the house, they reported seeing the man running and ordered him to stop. When he didn’t, Aldridge said the officer tried to use a stun gun to stop the man, but a less lethal option was “ineffective”.

The department released CCTV footage showing a man running down the street and being pursued by a police officer. The officer appears to be unloading his stun gun, and after taking a few more steps, the man stumbles and falls.

The man rolled over and sat right on the road. Aldridge said it was then that the man pulled a gun out of his pants and pointed it at an officer who then fired twice towards the man, hitting him at least once.

“Fearing he was about to be shot, the officer fired his pistol twice at the suspect to stop his deadly threat,” Aldridge said.

The second video released by the department was body camera footage of a second officer involved in the pursuit. This video contained sound, and an officer can be heard yelling, “Hey, get your hands out of your pockets. I’ll shoot you bro! Put your fucking gun down” just before two shots rang out. .

It is unclear which of the officers was heard on the recording.

Aldridge said that after the man was shot, he could be seen on camera throwing the gun into the grass.

After the shooting, Fort Worth police detained the man and gave him first aid. He was taken to a local hospital where his condition is said to be stable.

Aldridge said the man was given several opportunities to stop and that attempts were made to take him into custody with less lethal options before he was shot dead.

The Fort Worth police have not released the camera footage of the officer shooting the man. Police said the investigation is at a preliminary stage and is ongoing.

Galvan faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a government official. According to online prison records, Galvan is also facing two charges of car theft.

Bonds totaling $10,800 are attached to two of the four charges. There is currently no bail amount on the two charges added on Jan. 25, one charge of burglary and aggravated assault against a government official.

It is unclear whether Galvan found a lawyer.
