Fort Worth ISD Easter High School Receives First UIL Cheerleading Championship in School History

Fort Worth ISD Easter High School is celebrating a historic tag team victory: the first ever UIL Cheerleading Championship in school history.

The school showed its appreciation for the cheerleading team by holding a pep rally on Friday.

“To come home with a medal — and a gold medal — to be the best in the state of Texas in your field of competition is amazing,” said Paschal High School Principal Troy Langston.

Thirty members of the high school team won gold medals in the State UIL Spirit Competition, defeating 74 other Texas 6A high schools.

That’s three generations of excitement for Rani Smith’s senior family.

“This is my first time as a cheerleader,” she said. “And so I wanted to keep the legacy of Easter alive, and it was definitely a year to start and finish!”

“I was a cheerleader here and graduated from high school in ’91,” said her mother, Whitney Smith.

“Then in 1962. I am the grandmother of three,” Jan Hull said. “And I told them today, no matter what, if you’re an Easter high school panther, you’ll always have something to root for.”

The cheer rally in the school gym turned the script around and everyone cheered for the cheerleaders.

“We wanted it. We did it. We all wanted to win,” said cheerleader Indy Lopez. “So I feel like now that we’ve done that, we’re setting the standard for Fort Worth ISD.”
