Fort Worth dog murder suspect arrested

Fort Worth police arrest 18-year-old Donovin Copeland in connection with shooting and murder dog during a robbery on January 2— assure the department.

On Saturday, Fort Worth detectives received information from members of the community about Copeland’s whereabouts. Copeland, who also had multiple warrants for aggravated robbery, was in the 6200 block of Vega Drive in Fort Worth.

Copeland and his brother, 21-year-old Billy Don Copeland, were seen watching the apartment and police intelligence. Both were arrested without incident. Billy Copeland had a stolen pistol and a rifle was also found.

The January 2 robbery took place around 1:30 p.m. at a gas station near North Main Street in New York City. Fort Worth. Jackie Anderson and her dog were sitting at the counter when the man came in.

Video footage shows the man running across the counter with a gun in his hand. The dog ran towards the man before he pointed the gun and fired, killing the dog immediately. He then proceeded to rob the store, coming face to face with Anderson.

Anderson did not speak to NBC 5 but made the announcement in memory of Peanuts, a dog she had for 12 years.

Everyone says I’m lucky to have a life, but he practically stole it from me right then and there. My baby was my best friend, and the store that I can no longer go to after practically living there for nine years was my life. All the people I see every day that I can’t talk to anymore because I don’t want to relive it. my happiness my contentment [sic] he stole it all. He left me in a complete mess, my best friend, unemployed, scared. I sleep with the lights on because of the little sleep I have. He changed my whole life. I don’t believe he should have his.

Both Copeland brothers were sent to the Fort Worth Police Jail. Billy Copeland is charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a criminal and harboring a fugitive. Additional charges may be brought.
