After spending much of her rookie season in the frigid Sioux Falls, South Dakota, former USF star Jamari Buyea made a splash on Florida’s South Beach.

Buyea, who led San Francisco to the 2022 NCAA Tournament, was called up to the Miami Heat on a 10-day deal on Feb. 8, and an early return suggests he could be part of Miami’s long-term plans.

After playing sparingly in his first two games, Buyea had serious minutes in his third. After losing 112-108 to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, he played 28 minutes, as did starter Caleb Martin.

Buyea scored 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, knocking down a couple of triples, including one over reigning two-time MVP Nikola Jokic.

Buyea also finished the evening with three assists, three steals and a block. Miami’s last game before the All-Star Break is this Wednesday, when the Heat travel north to visit the Brooklyn Nets.
