Florida woman arrested in death of 27-year-old mother ‘randomly fired’ at cars: deputies

A Florida woman has been arrested who shot at random passing cars in Orange County earlier this month, killing her 27-year-old wife and mother.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that Anguila Baxter, 56, was arrested by homicide detectives in connection with the January 12 death of Nekaibau Collier. She has been charged with second-degree murder with a firearm.

The sheriff’s office said that Baxter claimed she was being followed by several people when she recklessly began shooting at several cars and people, hitting Collier and killing her.

“We express our deepest condolences to the Nekaibau family for the senseless murder of this young mother, wife and daughter,” the sheriff’s office said, adding that Collier was an innocent victim.

Deputies said Collier was pronounced dead in a hospital after she was found unconscious in her car in the 5200 block of North Powers Drive shortly after 7 p.m. on January 12. An autopsy revealed that bullets from a Baxter revolver were found in Collier’s body.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Fox 35 Orlando, deputies said they were pulled over by a man claiming a black woman in a red SUV shot him as he drove down North Pine Hills Road on Jan. 12. The affidavit states that the car was sitting in the middle of the road near the Belco Drive junction.

The man told police that the woman fired at people passing by her, and one of the shots hit the rear passenger panel.

Police said another woman reported that a woman in a red SUV pulled up next to her car and shouted obscenities around 7:00 pm that same day. She said she heard “two thumps” in her car before she left.

Two days later, on January 14, the woman found two bullet holes in the front of her car. She reportedly drove back to the area and found someone who had witnessed the incidents.

Deputies said a witness was able to identify Baxter as a woman “shooting at cars and shouting obscenities at random people in the area” at a January 14 photo op.

When detectives questioned her, Baxter said she didn’t remember the day of the shooting, but she did remember that “several cars were following her,” Fox 35 reported.

Baxter told detectives that she pulled her gun at the same spot where Collier was killed and fired into the air because a woman was chasing her. She also admitted to shooting at several cars on the same day.
