Florida Rep. Greg Steube discharged from hospital after falling 25 feet in yard accident: ‘Thank God’

A Florida congressman who suffered serious injuries after falling more than 20 feet while chopping a tree near his home in Sarasota has been discharged from the hospital.

U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, D-Fla., shared on Twitter Saturday afternoon that he would be recuperating at home.

“All praise and glory to God!” Steub wrote on Twitter. “I’m grateful to be home and recovering from being discharged from the hospital today.”

He added, “Jen and I are endlessly blessed with the prayers and support of our friends, family and community.”

Steube spent four days in the hospital after being thrown down a flight of stairs on Wednesday and falling 25 feet. A passer-by witnessed the fall and called 911.

The legislator was then rushed to the Sarasota Memorial Intensive Care Unit.

Darrell Woody, part-time field spokesman for U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan, witnessed the fall and called emergency services, according to an emergency audio tape obtained by Fox 13 Tampa Bay.

“A branch hit the ladder and pulled him out,” Woody said over the phone. “I think his left arm is pretty badly hurt.”

Steube also thanked the staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on Saturday “for the excellent care” they provided.

The Republican broke the news as he recuperated in the hospital, tweeting Wednesday that he was “making progress” and was “in good spirits.”

Steube was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and is serving his third term representing Florida’s 17th congressional district.
