Florida congressman distributes letters and grenades to fellow Republican Party representatives

WASHINGTON — A congressman from Florida gained attention after he greeted his fellow lawmakers in the US House of Representatives with a strange gift: grenades.

Letters and inert grenades were distributed to GOP members as a welcome gift, spokesman Corey Mills said. According to the representative, the grenades could not harm the deputies.

“We delivered them to the offices and got great feedback,” a spokesperson said. “Of course, all the necessary security measures were taken, and the Capitol police even escorted employees into the building with them. Each one was carefully examined.

The letter says:

Welcome to the 118th Missionary Congress. I am passionate about working for the American people and look forward to working with you to fulfill that commitment. I am honored to be a member of the armed forces and foreign affairs committees.

In this spirit, I will gladly present you with a 40mm grenade made for the MK19 grenade launcher. They are made in the Sunshine State and first developed during the Vietnam War.

Let’s come together and get to work on behalf of our constituents.

Letter from Representative Corey Mills

Daily Mail reporter Morgan Phillips tweeted an image of a letter and a grenade. The picture shows a 40-mm grenade with the GOP logo embroidered on it.

Mills won his race in the 7th district of the US House of Representatives against Karen Green during the 2022 general election. The district now represents Seminole County and southeastern Volusia County after Florida legislators voted to change the composition of the county.
