First day of weather warning: Some North Texas residents may see snow on Tuesday

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – All January we had no precipitation, but it all ends on Tuesday.

We have issued the first weather warning for Tuesday. The day will be cold, windy and overcast. Everyone is expected to see rain, some to see light snow, and a fresh northerly wind will make us feel like we’re in the 30s.

We expect heavy rainfall from west to east on Tuesday morning commute. Heavy rain is possible at times, so make sure you plan extra time for your morning and evening commute. We could see 0.75 to 1.5 inches of rain.

Temperatures start in the mid to 40 degrees in much of North Texas. However, temperatures will drop from morning to afternoon. As temperatures drop, we see a mixture of rain and snow begin to move in from the west around noon. This mixture continues throughout the day and evening. I expect mostly cold rain across the metroplex, but we could see rain mixed with snow in the early evening hours.

The winter weather warning goes into effect Tuesday noon – this is where snow accumulation is most likely and some minor travel impacts are expected. Winter weather advisories do not include the Metroplex, but include Red River Counties and our Northwest Counties. Accumulation will be mostly on grassy and elevated surfaces, but there may also be some slush on northern and western roads.

This is a fast moving system and we should see any precipitation end around midnight but the cold persists. By Thursday morning, the minimum temperature drops below zero.
