FBI now involved in investigation into death of GOP MP as she was found to have been shot 7 times in the head: report

The FBI is investigating the murder of a New Jersey Republican councilman who was killed Wednesday night, WABC-TV reports.

Eunice Dumfour, a city council member for Sayreville, near New York City, was shot and killed in her car outside her townhouse around 7:30 p.m.

“We are aware of an investigation into the death of Councilman Dumfur in Sayreville Wednesday night,” the FBI said in a statement, WABC reported Friday.

“We spoke with our local law enforcement partners at the Sayreville Police Department and the Middlesex County Attorney’s Office,” the statement said. “If they contact us for any assistance, we will do our best to assist their investigation.”

Witnesses said they could see the man running from where Dumfur was killed towards the Garden State Parkway, WABC reported. The motive for the murder has not been established.

A clerk shot the robbery suspects in the back, but he pulled out his gun and fired the fatal shot.

Pastor Nelia Rodriguez, Dumfur’s girlfriend, said Thursday on the Fox News program Ingram’s Corner that Dumfur’s shooting was a targeted “personal attack.”

“We believe in it [was] very personal, because she was shot seven times in the face and hit seven more times in all directions [else]. So for someone to get close to someone and shoot them so many times, it has to be personal,” she said.

Do you think there was a political motive in this murder?

Rodriguez said there was “probably no answer” as to why Dumfur was killed.

“Why would anyone do this? Someone who doesn’t have a heart, someone who doesn’t like society, someone who might be jealous. There could be many reasons why someone could hurt someone like her who had such a beautiful soul who loved everyone and was always smiling,” she said.

“She never said no. She took off her jacket to give it to you. Her soul was so beautiful. She was such a light to everyone in the community. It’s terrible to even think that someone is trying to harm her,” said Rodriguez.

The British Daily Mail reported that Dumfur lived with her 12-year-old daughter from a previous marriage and married a pastor who lives in Nigeria at the end of November.

Former Dwumfour campaign manager Karen Bailey Bebert told WABC she doesn’t think there are any clouds hanging over Dwumfour’s life.

“She was happy with her new husband. Seems. Happy with my daughter and she was living the life of the American dream. She was a beautiful, purposeful person who felt very comfortable in society,” Bebert said.

“I believe her daughter has lit up her life. Jesus Christ lit up her life. She was very loyal and determined. She was a shining star,” she said.

According to New Brunswick Today, Dumfur was pastor of the Royal Assembly of Champions, an African church based in Newark.

“Eunice was a dedicated member of our City Council who genuinely strived to serve our residents,” Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick said in a statement, according to NJ.com. “The fact that she was taken from us as a result of this heinous criminal act makes this incident all the more horrific.”

“In addition to her dedication to the community, I can share that she was a woman of deep faith and worked hard to integrate her strong Christian beliefs into her daily life as a person and community leader,” she said.

Dumfur was elected to the council in 2021. According to WNBC-TV, she worked as an IT specialist.
