Exclusive – Florida GOP Chairman Christian Ziegler: ‘We’re going to stay neutral’ in Trump vs. DeSantis brawl

The Florida Republican Party will remain “neutral” and allow the grassroots to choose their ideal candidate for 2024, especially in light of the battle between former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida Republican Party chairman Christian Ziegler said. Breitbart News on Saturday.

Ziegler, who recently won the election by elevating him to the chairmanship, explained that he has an excellent relationship with both Trump and DeSantis, praising each of the two leaders.

“President Trump was one of the greatest presidents we have ever had, if not the greatest. I mean, he really laid the groundwork,” he said, explaining that Trump paved the way for many other “real fighters” to join the effort.

“We have a lot of Republicans running for office that are like real fighters that we didn’t have before. And it’s because of his leadership, his tone, his focus and his style, and people have begun to understand that the American people want to see leaders who are ready to fight,” he said, explaining that DeSantis, who has not yet revealed his intentions on 2024 , perhaps one of the greatest governors in the history of the country.

“Governor DeSantis has not yet announced that he is running for president. I mean, we’ll see if he does it or not, but I don’t know if there’s been a better governor in the history of this country than Governor Ron DeSantis, and he really solves these problems every single day fighting for us, so u I have a great relationship with both men,” he said, revealing the strategy of the Florida Republican Party movement. Ultimately, he said, the Florida Republican Party will support both men and let the grassroots determine who they want as their candidate.

“Were going To support both Men. TueYou going To stay neutral. AND were going To let V grassroots To choose And then the one who They choose, were going to do Certainly They receive elected, whether his The president Trump [or] Governor DeSantis. Were going To let V grassroots choose. TueYou going To Job like hell To receive their elected after that,” Ziegler said, stressing that they will go all-in on who the candidate will be after the primaries are over.

He added an extra perspective by recalling the crowded GOP field in 2016, which included the likes of Jeb Bush and Senator Marco Rubio. That year, the Florida grassroots were overwhelmingly pro-Trump. However, if the Florida Republican Party were to go all-in for one of these other candidates during the primaries, it would be at serious odds with the voters who chose Trump.

And if the party had intervened back in 2016, I promise you, it probably would have been for one of them. [Bush or Rubio]. And we saw that the grassroots – 66 of Florida’s 67 counties – supported Trump. So there would be a big gap. That is why I am in favor of the party remaining neutral,” he said, explaining that the party would be ready “one minute” after the primaries to start fighting for a candidate.

“And that’s what we’re going to do in Florida,” he said, promising that he sets the tone as chairman.

“That is exactly what we are going to do, but we will support both men until the primaries are over and then we will get to work,” he added.
