Evacuation orders are now warning along the Salinas River.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (KION-TV) The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has downgraded all evacuation orders to warnings along the Salinas River.

This is less than a week after Sheriff Tina Nieto said the Monterey Peninsula could be isolated from the rest of the country due to possible highway closures due to flooding.

“If you are in an evacuation warning zone, prepare to leave. Be prepared to leave if an evacuation order is issued. Gather the necessary items now to be ready to leave,” the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said.

Caltrans: Highway 1 closure ‘unlikely’ plus ‘small risk’ for Highway 68 during Salinas River flood

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) — Caltrans crews in the Monterey County area said a Highway 1 closure is “unlikely” needed after some concerns that the Salinas River would spill onto the highway.

The agency added that Highway 68 near Spreckels also remains open and is expected to remain open during the current high-flow event.

On Saturday morning, crews were able to inspect bridges and roads that could potentially be affected by flooding from the Salinas River.

Despite this, Caltrans said it will continue to monitor Highway 1 and the strong current along the Salinas River if there are any changes.

Initially, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office feared that the Monterey Peninsula would be cut off from the rest of the Central Coast, with major highways blocked by flood waters.

On Friday morning the river rose above 24 feet and then slowly receded during the rest of the day.
