Dwyane Wade’s baby officially changes ID to female, despite mother’s opposition

Former NBA star Dwyane Wade’s son, born Sion Malachi Iramis Wade, legally changed his name to Zaya in a Los Angeles court on Friday and is now officially a “female” despite opposition to his birth mother’s move. .

The teen, who has been named Zaya since 2020 and wants to be identified as a girl, has also received permission from the Los Angeles Supreme Court to change gender markers on official documents. People.

Wade’s son first came out as transgender in 2020 and made his first appearance as a transgender girl in March of that year.

This “re-acquaintance” came a month after the couple went public to proudly support the boy, who decided in the future to be called a girl named Zaya.

“Me and my wife, my wife Gabrielle Union…we are proud to be the parent of a child in the LGBTQ+ community, and we are also proud to be allies,” Wade told Ellen DeGeneres in February. “We take our role and responsibility as parents very seriously.”

“Zion, who was born a boy, came home and said, “Hey, I want to talk to you guys. I think going forward, I’m ready to live my truth. I want to be called “she” and “her”. I wish you guys could call me Zaya,” Wade added.

However, Zaya’s biological mother, Siowon Funches-Wade, not only opposes gender reassignment, but also accused Wade of inflating the baby’s gender mixing and using him for personal publicity. She also filed a lawsuit against Wade and his current wife, actress Gabrielle Union.

In her lawsuit, Funches-Wade, 41, alleged that Wade only pandered to the teen’s transgender desires because there was a lot of money to be made from advertising deals.

Funches-Wade noted that Wade “may profit from changing the name and gender of a minor child at various companies through contact and marketing opportunities, including but not limited to deals with Disney.”

“I have concerns that [Wade] can put pressure on our child to move forward with name and gender changes to benefit from the financial opportunities he has received from companies,” she said.

Funches-Wade also said that Wade confided to her that he was going to make money from their underage child’s gender confusion.

“[Wade] told me that he intended to make our child very famous because of the name and gender issue, and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated with it,” she said.

For his part, Wade disputes his ex-wife’s claims and says that not only is he the 15-year-old’s primary caretaker, but that Funches-Wade was an absent parent who was not present in her child’s life.
