Duncanville High School was forced to pull out of the girls’ latest basketball game due to an ongoing investigation.

The Duncanville High School girls’ basketball program, which has already been banned from the playoffs by the UIL, is in more trouble.

Duncanville ISD has now suspended the girls’ coaching staff and a former head coach who had already been suspended by the UIL last year but was hired by the district as an employee in a different position.

The district says the former head coach may have violated her suspension.

Duncanville High School was forced to pull out of the girls’ latest basketball game due to an ongoing investigation.

The Duncanville girls’ basketball team posted a perfect 12-0 record in district games before the Duncanville ISD forced the team to forfeit their Tuesday night game against Skyline High School.

But they still did not go to the playoffs. In October last year, UIL banned the program from the postseason and put it on a three-year trial period. UIL found that he violated recruitment rules and practice restrictions.

Now the county itself claims there are new allegations.

Duncanville ISD suspended the entire girls’ basketball coaching staff and former head coach LaGianna Howard, with pay.

In a statement, Duncanville ISD Superintendent Mark Smith said, “Recently, I became aware of the allegations against the Duncanville High School girls basketball coaches. The county and I take these allegations seriously. When we learned of the allegations, the county immediately launched an investigation.”

Duncanville ISD declined to give any details about its investigation, except that Howard had potentially violated her one-year suspension from the UIL.

The county did not fire Howard when the UIL penalized her last October, but gave her another county position while she served her suspension.

The women’s team, ranked eleventh in the nation, is not the only Duncanville team suspended after the season ended.

The boys’ basketball team, currently ranked third in the nation, received a voluntary county ban from the playoffs following another UIL investigation.

However, the UIL forced the team to void all games of the 2021–22 season and forfeit the 2022 6A State Championship because they played an ineligible player.

UIL suspended boys head coach David Peavy for a year, but the district also retained Peavy as an employee, giving him another position within the district.

A new investigation into the girls’ program comes after the county also created a new compliance officer position for the girl last November to ensure the athletic programs are compliant with UIL rules.

FOX 4 reached out to UIL for more information but received no response.

Regarding the investigation into the women’s basketball team, Duncanville ISD said it could not provide any further information.
