Dream Team: The Oversight Committee Is Full of Conservative Troubleshooters

The House Republican Steering Committee on Tuesday selected several conservative thugs to serve on the Oversight Committee during the 118th Congress, including several members who were previously stripped of their committee positions by House Democrats during the previous Congress.

The Republican-led House Oversight Committee will drawn up representatives Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), Lauren Bobert (R-CO), Tim Burchett (R-TN), Eric Burlison (R-MO), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Chuck Edwards (R-NC), Russell Fry (R-SC), Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Nick Langworthy (R-NY), Jake LaTerner (R-KS), Gary Palmer (R-AL), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Scott Perry (R-PA), Lisa McClain (R-MI), Pete Sessions (R-TX) and William Timmons (R-SC).

“I am honored to join the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability,” Bobert said. tweeted after the election of the Steering Committee. “Chairman @RepJamesComer, let’s get to work!”

The selection of the Steering Committee must be approved by a vote of the entire House Republican conference, which “usually approves the recommendations of the Steering Committee,” according to The Hill.

In the weeks leading up to the 118th Congress, the Biden White House announced that it would not comply with the Republican Party’s demands for oversight until they formally gained control of the House of Representatives.

However, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) recently launched an investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents after reports that several boxes of White House records from his tenure as vice president were found in several places.

The appointments of Representatives Green and Gosar to the Oversight Committee are significant because both members were stripped of their committee positions by Democrats during the previous Congress.

House Democrats in February 2021, just a month after she took office, voted to remove Green from her committee positions amid controversy related to her social media activities.

Then, in November 2021, House Democrats voted to remove Gosar from his committee duties, including the Oversight Committee, after he posted a controversial edited anime video to his Twitter account.

Along with an investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents, the Republican-led Oversight Committee also pledge to investigate Biden’s White House on several issues, including the ongoing border and fentanyl crisis, the energy crisis, Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, Hunter Biden’s business dealings, and the origin of the coronavirus.
