Dogs attack couple and kill 81-year-old man after running away from yard

A pair of dogs attacked a couple and a police officer outside a Texas apartment building, killing one man and ending up in jail, according to San Antonio police.

According to a press release from the San Antonio Police Department, on Friday, February 24, an 81-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman were on their way to a friend’s house in the southwestern part of the city.

Couple attacked by two American Staffordshire Terriers

According to police, the couple were attacked by two American Staffordshire Terriers, who fled from the yard of a neighboring house upon arrival and got out of the car. Observers dialed 911.

When paramedics arrived, the dogs were still attacking, police said. When the ambulance captain tried to intervene, one of the dogs bit him on the leg, authorities said.

The couple and the captain were taken to hospital for treatment, authorities said. The 81-year-old man died as a result of his injuries.

The incidents were investigated by the City of San Antonio Animal Services and the 31-year-old dog owner was detained on suspicion of allowing a dangerous dog to attack an elderly person, resulting in death and injury.
