The Travis County District Attorney’s office dropped all charges against Chris Byrd, a former head basketball coach at the University of Texas at Austin who was fired last month after authorities accused him of strangling his fiancée.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said Wednesday that his agency takes all domestic violence cases seriously, but decided they didn’t have enough evidence to reach a guilty verdict.

“After careful and thorough review of the evidence, recent public statements, and in consideration of Ms. Trew’s wishes, our office has determined that a felony cannot be proven beyond reasonable doubt,” the Travis County District Attorney’s office said in a statement.

Bird was charged with a third-degree felony for domestic violence. His fiancée, Randy Trew, later made public statements denying that Beard strangled her.

This is an evolving story; come back for details.
