DFW Metroplex is under ice storm warning as more accumulation possible
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – North Texas will wake up Wednesday morning with icy roads, grass and patios.
Be very careful about taking your pets outside or letting kids make ice angels, like Tara Chambers did on The Colony on Tuesday.
On Tuesday we mostly saw sleet. Today we see mostly freezing rain with some sleet.
Not only will ice build up on power lines, which can weigh them down and cause power outages, it can also break tree branches.
The National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for the DFW Metroplex and areas to the west where ice buildup of half an inch more is possible. The rest of North Texas is under a winter storm warning.
This means that another very cold and icy day awaits everyone.
The temperature starts from the middle to 20 degrees and, if we are lucky, will only warm up to 31 degrees.
So, brace yourself if you go out at any point today as it will feel like older teens and under 20s.
As warmer air moves into the middle layers of the atmosphere, precipitation will melt as it falls and then freeze at the surface as it passes through the shallow cold layer.
Precipitation coverage will increase as we approach noon and afternoon hours.
The roads are currently in a terrible state and will get worse every day. So please stay off the roads if you can.
Temperatures will hover below freezing all day and into Thursday morning.
Freezing rain and sleet is possible early tomorrow morning before the temperature warms above 32 degrees.
The upper low that sent waves of energy into N. Texas will finally move on Thursday evening and may pull in some cold air from the other side.
Wet snowflakes may appear in some areas before we dry overnight.
By Friday, it will warm up to 50 degrees in North Texas and the sun will return!
We will continue to warm up and stay dry throughout the weekend while you can hit the roads and get out of your homes! Hooray!
In the meantime, take a page from Maggie’s book and stay cozy at home.
