Democrats turn on candidate Marianne Williamson’s “joke” after she announced Biden’s 2024 challenge.

Spiritual adviser and best-selling self-help author Marianne Williamson is facing backlash from members of her own party after announcing over the weekend that she would challenge President Biden politically.

Biden has yet to announce whether he will run for a second term in 2024.

“We know that this country is facing many challenges right now, not the least of which is hatred and division, more than any of us have experienced… Our job is to create that vision of justice and love. powerful that it will conquer the forces of hatred, injustice and fear,” Williamson said on Saturday.

Speaking at her campaign launch event in Washington, D.C. at Union Station, Williamson drew the ire of some members of the Democratic Party who are more than willing to reject her candidacy and support someone else, like Biden, who will be the next president. almost 82 years old. elections.

Democratic activist and American lawyer Aaron Parnas disagreed with those trying to legitimize Williamson’s candidacy, calling Biden one of the “most revolutionary” presidents in recent history.

“The media should stop legitimizing Marianne Williamson’s presidential campaign,” Parnas wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “President Biden was one of the most revolutionary presidents in recent history and enjoys the full support of Democrats across America. There are no legal primaries. Biden is our candidate.”

Santiago Mayer, founder and CEO of Voters of Tomorrow, also downplayed Williamson’s campaign announcement, calling it a “joke” with financial motives.

“Let’s be clear: Marianne Williamson is a joke,” Mayer wrote. “She’s basically a non-serious candidate, running as a stunt to sell her books.”

“The best way to deal with her is not to address her at all,” political commentator and former Biden delegate Lindy Lee said on MSNBC following Saturday’s announcement.

Some, however, praised Williamson’s performance, albeit hesitantly.

“Marianne Williamson’s announcement is really quite compelling,” wrote Steve Morris, Senior Producer at Recount Media, along with a quote from the speech.

“I understand that this is how people get into cults,” he joked in a later tweet.

Williamson did not mention Biden in her Saturday speech, but said that the failure to elect former President Trump in 2020 means that America has not fallen “off the cliff.” She said, “We’re still six inches away from him.”

She painted a grim vision of an America of broken windows, addiction, poverty and despair.

“Half the people in this town don’t even notice [despair]” she said, urging leaders that they lack “the backbone or moral courage” to solve the problems.

“Ladies and gentlemen, let me in there. I’ll go in,” she said.

Williamson, who has called for reparations and the Department of Peace as part of her failed multifaceted campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, becomes the first Democrat with supporters in the country to challenge the 80-year-old president.

During the 2020 cycle, Williamson was an unconventional candidate who preached the politics of love. She highlighted “six pillars for restoring morality,” including economic justice. She proposed the creation of a Department of Children and Youth Affairs and a Department of Peace, and pushed for reparations for the descendants of African American slaves. Among her unorthodox acts was holding a meditation session during the New Hampshire campaign.
