Deadly Motorcycle Accident Occurs in Manchester Township

A tragic motorcycle accident occurred in Manchester Township, NJ on Sunday, April 23, 2023, leaving one person dead. According to the Manchester Township Police Department, they received a report of the accident at approximately 3:41 p.m. and quickly dispatched officers to investigate. The accident involved a 2012 Yamaha FZ8 motorcycle whose driver was found unconscious and without a pulse. Witnesses and good Samaritans were already on the scene, having begun cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an attempt to save the man’s life.

Upon arrival, officers observed the motorcycle near the wood-line on the grass portion adjacent to the roadway with extensive damage to the entire vehicle. The man, identified as 28-year-old Roland Same of Lakewood, NJ, was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash. However, he had sustained extensive life-threatening injuries, and both officers and Manchester Emergency Medical Services immediately began performing life-saving measures. Same was transported to Community Medical Center, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.

Initial investigations into the accident revealed that Same was driving eastbound on Pasadena Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, was ejected, and subsequently struck multiple trees before coming to a final rest. As such, speed and driver error appear to be contributing factors in the accident, and the department’s Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating the crash. Assisting at the scene were members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Manchester Emergency Medical Services, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, and Accurate Towing Service.

With the warm weather upon us and the increase in motorcycle traffic on the roadways, riders, and motorists alike are reminded to remain vigilant and always be aware of the presence of motorcycles. It is important to obey all traffic laws and to arrive safely to prevent further accidents and injuries from occurring. The Manchester Township Police Department continues to investigate this fatal motorcycle accident, and we implore everyone to stay safe while on the road.
