Dallas Police Investigate ‘Suspicious’ Death of Vulture at Dallas Zoo

According to the Dallas Police Department, Dallas Zoo officials have responded to a report about an endangered vulture that was found dead in its enclosure.

Police said the bird’s cause of death is currently unknown, but the death is being investigated as “suspicious.”

The circumstances of the bird’s death are unusual and the death does not appear to have occurred from natural causes, the Dallas Zoo said.

Officials said given recent incidents at the zoo, including hull damage reports and escaped clouded leopardstaff alerted the Dallas Police Department to the vulture’s death.

Zoo officials have also installed additional cameras throughout the facility and stepped up patrols at night following recent incidents, officials said.

Police said an autopsy on the bird would be performed and police officers were investigating the incident.
