Cut found in Dallas Zoo monkey habitat after leopard escapes

Section in the fence of the second animal habitat on Dallas Zoo found, police said.

A section of the fence was found in a habitat of langurs, a breed of monkey, officials said. All of the langurs were still in their habitat and did not appear to have been harmed or endangered in any way. Dallas Police said a felony report was made and Dallas Police are investigating the incident.

The cut was discovered after police found a cut on fencing in clouded leopard habitatwhich led to the escape of one of the zoo’s leopards on Friday. Dallas Police said that further investigation determined that the cutting tool had been deliberately used to cut through the fence.

Nova the leopard was later found on the zoo grounds late Friday afternoon near her original habitat. No one was hurt, and initial signs showed Nova herself was unharmed, the Dallas Zoo said. She has since returned to her exhibition.

Police said it is not known if the two incidents are related.
