Cruz Grylls nominated Biden for donation to Senators while her candidacy was under consideration

One of Joe Biden’s presidential candidates defends the timing of his political contributions.

Gigi Son, appointed to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has faced criticism from Senator Ted Cruz (D-Tex.) over the timing of her donations to Democratic senators.

“In the 15 months that your nomination is under consideration, you have made not one, not two, not three, you have made 12 separate political donations to senators running for office,” he said. “I was in the Senate for 10 years. I have never seen a candidate make senatorial contributions while your nomination is pending.”

The Texas senator explained that he asked his staff to review the records to see if Trump administration candidates made donations to senators while their nominations were pending, and they could not find any other examples. He then noted that Son had donated $32,000 to various candidates over the years.

Cruz asked, “Do you think it was a mistake to give 12 separate political donations to Democratic senators while your nomination was pending?”

“I am a citizen who just wanted to participate in the democratic process. The answer is no,” Son replied.

Cruz insisted, “So, yes or no, do you think it’s bad judgment to cut checks to senators who vote for your candidacy while it’s under consideration?”

Do you think her donations were appropriate?

“Relatively small donations, no, I don’t,” Son said.

Cruz noted that she donated “over $1,000” while her nomination was pending.

The Washington Examiner reported last week on a letter from Tom Jones, president of the conservative watchdog group American Accountability Foundation (AAF), in which he called on Democrats who received Son’s donation to recuse themselves.

“RS. Son’s donations to your campaigns and your acceptance of her contributions while waiting for her approval irrevocably skewed the decision-making process and made it impossible to vote objectively on her approval,” Jones wrote.

He added, “While Ms. Song’s donations were not illegal, they were unethical. Campaign contributions will undermine people’s trust in your and her decisions by giving the impression that campaign donations are part of the legislator’s decision-making process in support of her.”

The Examiner noted that in 2022, Son donated $550 to the campaign of Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), $200 to the campaign of Senator Michael Bennett (D-Colorado), and $100 each to the campaign of Senator Katherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada). and the campaign of Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania).

Can a $100 donation buy a senator’s endorsement? One would certainly hope that no, our country is in big trouble – not that their votes have been sold anyway.

While Son’s donations were apparently not illegal, it’s not good to contribute to the campaigns of senators who will vote for your candidacy. Just wait for the Senate to confirm or reject your candidacy and avoid questions.
