Construction on University Street Fort Worth next to the zoo is on hold for spring break.

A major construction project is now on hold to make way for spring break bound for the Fort Worth Zoo.

Orange cones rose last month on University Drive as the city launched the first phase of a long-term plan to renovate a very busy street.

The retail stretch between I-30 and Collinsworth Street next to the zoo was hit hardest by the lane closures.

However, all lanes are temporarily open to accommodate heavy traffic to and from the zoo during spring break.

The pause in construction will last until March 20.
