COMING UP: Texas Gov. Abbott and Lt. Gov. Patrick to Inaugurate Today

Abbott begins his third four-year term on Tuesday after defeating the Democratic nominee. Beto O’Rourke in November 2022. Abbott campaigned on his promise to continue working to further secure the border with Mexico and stem the wave of migration, as well as to introduce meaningful property tax reform for Texans.

The governor, who is expected to lay out his vision for Texas over the next four years during his inaugural address Tuesday, is expected to focus on keeping the state an economic powerhouse while reducing the real estate tax burden on residents. according to our partners at The Dallas Morning News.

Patrick, who is also leader of the Texas Senate, also begins his third four-year term on Tuesday. The 88th Texas Legislature began its session earlier this month. Patrick has prioritized for his December session.which also included property tax relief.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Texas National Guard unveiling the colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem. Patrick’s swearing-in will take place around 11:34 and his speech will begin at 11:45. Abbott will be sworn in shortly before noon at 11:55 am and is expected to begin his speech in about seven minutes.

The inauguration will be followed by the Taste of Texas Inaugural Dinner, which will include dishes from select restaurants across the state. North Texas is represented at dinner by Pelican House in Dallas, which serves cajun chipotle corn salad and jambalaya BBQ brisket. The day will end with Tuesday night’s inaugural ball – “The Texas Celebration” – at Austin’s Moody Theatre.
