Collier County takes action to ban marijuana dispensaries

NAPLES, Florida. On Tuesday, Collier County commissioners will discuss a ban on the sale of medical marijuana.

The commissioners will address the issue when considering an ordinance that would prohibit the establishment or location of medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated Collier County.

The discussion arose at the meeting on 24 January. The commission had the opportunity to assign outpatient clinics to the same zoning as pharmacies, but decided to ban outpatient clinics altogether.

“I am of the opinion that we should end the discussion and not allow the sale of medical marijuana. At some point, we can always reverse this ordinance,” said Bert L. Saunders, District 3 Commissioner.

Chairman Rick LoCastro added that anyone who needs marijuana for medical reasons can come to Marco Island.

“People who benefit from this can drive to Marco Island. Most people I know use it by mailing it to their homes,” he said.

He also said that there are over 30 dispensaries across the county line available to all citizens.
