On Monday, Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg was arrested after holding a protest outside the Energy Ministry in Oslo, Norway.
She was protesting the construction of a wind farm, which she claims is infringing on the rights of the Sámi, an indigenous group, to herd reindeer in Norway.
Video of the arrest began to circulate on the internet, showing Thunberg being taken away as two Swedish police officers detained and took her away.
According to Reuters, Thunberg blocked the entrance to the Ministry of Finance, and then to the Ministry of Climate and the Environment.
Some social media users were quick to denounce the “theatricality” of the incident and hinted that it was all a staged scam involving hired actors:

It’s fun. The police “arrested” Greta “doomsday” Thunberg again but this time with more theatrics as they carried her on all fours like she was heading to a supermax prison, but then they just let her go. The media vultures loved it. pic.twitter.com/9JAXnQdjXd

I’m convinced she paid them for it.

Is climate change really the biggest threat facing the United States?
Are police uniforms just costumes or what?

In the video, Thunberg, surrounded by film crews and a crowd of chanting teenagers, was filmed by the arms and legs. Despite the seriousness of the sight, she was then casually released and left as if nothing had happened. In fact, the unknown person warmly hugged Thunberg as soon as the police “let her go.”
As mentioned above, it was pure theatricality.
Thunberg was never taken to the police station, not registered or did anything else that usually happens during an arrest. Even if someone is not arrested after detention, it is usually longer than just walking (or carrying) the paparazzi.

Given Thunberg’s well-documented talent for theatricality, it’s hard to blame anyone who thinks this is just another staged incident.
This is far from the first time Thunberg has been accused of being more of an actress than an activist.
In January, she was interrogated on the streets of Davos, Switzerland by a reporter who asked, “It’s getting pretty cold in Davos, when can I expect global warming? Are you a child actor or an expert?”
Greta ignored the question and laughed.

Until Thunberg can come up with a better response than a laugh, these accusations will only haunt her.
