San Jose residents were surprised to see hail in the area late Sunday morning and early afternoon.

There was a special weather statement that went into effect early Sunday for most of the Bay Area as pea-sized hail, severe thunderstorms and wind were forecast.

The National Weather Service forecast for the Bay Area on Sunday suggests showers and thunderstorms are likely, with peaks in the 50s.

Some San Jose residents and NBC Bay Area staff posted videos and photos of hail that fell in the area on their social media pages.
