Child dies after accidentally shooting himself over gun found on mother’s nightstand, police say

WARTON, Texas. A 3-year-old child accidentally shot himself in Wharton on Friday, police said.

The child’s mother told police that her son found a gun on her bedside table.

After the shooting, he was taken to the hospital, where the police were called. Police said he was pronounced dead after hospital staff exhausted all life-saving measures.

The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Wharton Police Department.
