A lawyer for a woman accused of murdering and dismembering a boarding house owner in Chicago has demanded a speedy trial against her.
Sandra Colalou, 36, pleaded not guilty to the murder and other charges in the murder of Frances Walker, 69, whose partial remains were found in the freezer of a boarding house on Chicago’s northwest side.

Colalow’s lawyer Sean Brown demanded her right to a speedy trial during Tuesday’s hearing after a Cook County judge denied his bail request, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
In the courtroom, Brown said that Colalu was innocent and wanted to prove it quickly.
Brown said he believes the demand for a trial, if granted, would result in the state bringing a case against Colalu before the end of April.

Prosecutors said Walker served Colalow with an eviction notice before she was killed in October.
Colalou was arrested after police said she stabbed a tow truck driver who took her to a lakeside beach in Chicago. Prosecutors said Colalou threw the heavy bag into a trash can and then held a knife on the 24-year-old driver after he refused to take her elsewhere.
