Charges in the death of a 14-year-old shot dead outside a home in South Dallas have been dropped, officials said.

During the balloon release in October, Edwards’ mother, Cynthia, said she wanted justice for her only child.

DALLAS. Charges have been dropped against the 14-year-old who was shot dead in September, officials said.

Manuel Edwards was shot and killed just after 1:00 a.m. on September 25, 2022, a few steps from his home in South Dallas, on Al Lipscomb Street near Fair Park. Police said Edwards was in a vacant lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He died in the hospital.

According to his family, Edwards was in seventh grade at Billy Earl Dade High School.

Two people were arrested and charged in Edwards’ death in December, but on February 22, 2023, the Dallas Police Department said the charges were dropped after the District Attorney’s office said there was not enough evidence to charge.

During the balloon release in October, Edwards’ mother, Cynthia, said she wanted justice for her only child.

“I’m right here running down the street and I see my child being given cardiopulmonary resuscitation,” Edwards said.

Edwards pleaded with the public for any advice.

The investigation was still ongoing and no other details about other possible suspects were released.
