Carrollton High School Alleges Employee Gave Students Prescription Drugs

The subject of the letter was right on target: “Arrest of employee – drugs.” A message sent to parents Wednesday afternoon by Adam Greenage, Principal of R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, informed the public about a drug-related incident at the school.

Greenage wrote that a high school employee “gave a student prescription drugs without permission.” He said that when ISD Carrollton-Farmers Branch became aware of the incident, the county immediately launched an investigation and the person was placed on paid administrative leave.

“The employee has since quit immediately,” reads the message, which was received by Observer from parents of children attending ISD Carrollton-Farmers Branch. “Law enforcement agencies were immediately notified of the incident and are now conducting their own investigation.”

Greenage praised the Carrollton Police, as well as the school’s administrative team and staff, for their quick response. He also expressed gratitude to the leaders of the districts for their support.

“I know this will be very upsetting news for our community and I am very sorry about it. I also know that there will be rumors and other misinformation that will soon circulate on social media,” he continued, adding that he shared all the details he could legally give and that he encourages parents to reach out to him if they want to discuss it further.

The news comes as cities across Texas have been rocked by a string of accidental fentanyl overdoses and law enforcement has ramped up fentanyl-related arrests.

Authorities detained a 22-year-old man in February who they say supplied fentanyl that has been linked to the deaths of three Carrollton teenagers and several other teen overdoses. Earlier that month, two more suspects, also in their 20s, were arrested. They operated from the Carrollton home near R. L. Turner High School and were federally charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl.

In this case, the victims were between 13 and 17 years old.

Scant details are available about the R. L. Turner High School employee incident, including information about the type of prescription drugs. Observer reached out to Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD for comment but received no response as of press time. The email we received was sent through ParentSquare, a messaging service operated by ISD Carrollton-Farmers Branch.

The ISD Carrollton-Farmers Branch has previously come under fire from critics who say their concerns about fentanyl were taken too lightly. On Monday, a neighborhood meeting became tense after a community activist criticized the way CFBISD handled a series of hospitalizations and overdoses related to fentanyl pills, according to Dallas Morning News.

Carmine Williams, the mother of a 12-year-old schoolboy from the area who was addicted to fentanyl, also claimed to have alerted local administrators to her concerns, NBC-DFW told NBC-DFW last month. Her daughter, Chloe, eventually confessed to Williams that another schoolboy in the neighborhood had given her pills laced with fentanyl.

“She told me she would only take two photos a day, but the other kids did more,” Williams said, according to this source. “She showed me all types of pictures. For example, these kids had pill sandwich bags and they just handed them out.”
