By the Numbers: A Look at Dallas’ Violent Crime Statistics from 2019 to 2022.

Statistics provided by the Dallas Police Department showed a decline in violent crime and casualties in the past year. But there are some exceptions.

DALLAS – The Dallas Police Department’s crime statistics show that the city saw a steady decline in violent crime in 2022 after peaks in 2020 and 2021 – with a few exceptions.

In terms of homicides, the city saw a slight decrease, with 214 victims and 207 incidents in 2022.

This continues the decline that has been occurring since 2020, when the city counted a total of 254 casualties and 242 incidents.

Victims count each individual person affected by the crime, while Incident counts each individual message. For example: if someone fires a gun at a car with four people in it, that is one incident with four victims.

Compared to 2021, the decline compared to last year is much smaller, although it remains constant. In 2021, Dallas counted a total of 222 casualties and 215 incidents.

Here are the numbers from 2019:

  • 2019: 205 victims, 197 incidents
  • 2020: 254 victims, 242 incidents
  • 2021: 222 victims, 215 incidents
  • 2022: 214 victims, 207 incidents

The number of victims of attacks and incidents decreased in a similar way compared to 2021, but in 2022 the numbers were not lower than in 2020 and 2019. Last year, out of 5,648 incidents, there were 7,965 victims of attacks.

Here’s a look at the assault allegations over the past four years:

  • 2019: 6,442 victims, 4,991 incidents
  • 2020: 7045 victims, 5954 incidents
  • 2021: 8027 victims, 5873 incidents
  • 2022: 7695 victims, 5648 incidents

In a previous interview with WFAA, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said that the overall violent crime rate in 2022 was down by almost 5.5%.

Although crime decreased overall over the year, there was a period from March to May when the city experienced higher crime rates than any other period in years past.

There were 1,174 violent crime victims in total in May 2022, not only more violent crime victims than any other May in the last 4 years, but more violent crime victims than any other month – period – in the last four years. of the year.

In March and April 2022, the number of violent crimes was also similarly high, with 984 and 1,017 victims, respectively.

The reason for this spring spike, compared to the relatively low levels of violent crime in other months, may be due to a spate of shootings during that period, including a shooting at a concert in early April that resulted in the shooting of 16 people.

From March to May, the highest number of victims of attacks was also recorded, rising from 697 (in March) to 701 (in April) and 797 (in May), and then falling again to 664 victims in June.

In May 2022, the second-highest number of victims of attacks in the last four years was recorded after July 2021, when 815 victims were recorded.
