Brooklyn cop shot while trying to handcuff suspect after responding to domestic dispute
A 38-year-old Brooklyn cop was shot and wounded while responding to a domestic dispute in Bedford-Stuyvesant Wednesday morning, police said.
Seven-year NYPD veteran Orlando Adorino had chased the suspect to 181 Monroe Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant shortly before 9 a.m. and was handcuffing him when the man got a hand free, grabbed a gun from his waistband and opened fire, police sources told The Post.
Adorino was shot in the leg and taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said Mayor Eric Adams, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell and Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey visited the hospital later on Wednesday morning.
“Let’s be clear, because of officer Adorino’s and his partner’s actions we have a dangerous person off our streets and an illegal gun off our streets,” Adams said at a press briefing.
Sources said the incident unfolded after cops arrived at 277 Gates Ave. shortly after 8:30 a.m. on reports of a domestic dispute.
A woman at the scene had called the cops to complain her friend was “damaging the wall.”

Four officers responded and met the pair outside, where the suspect — identified by sources as Raheen Joye — was told he was getting busted for criminal mischief.
The suspect fought with the officers and allegedly pulled a turquoise 9 mm handgun, getting off a single shot that struck Adorino, according to the sources..
The suspect ran off and was chased by police to Monroe Street, where he was taken into custody after getting shot twice in the thigh, police said.
He was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he is in stable condition.
The shooting remains part of an ongoing investigation by cops at the 79th Precinct.
